Now here’s a subject every parent has had to get creative with. Whether it’s a trip to Grandma’s house, a drive to the state parks and beaches for an outing or that long road trip exploring what lays beyond the four corners of your neighborhood. Travel toys can be an ongoing challenge that’s also an absolute necessity when children are included on that trip. There are the old favorites like the “license plate” game, the alphabet game that can take up a good portion of the road trip depending on how scenic the roads you travel are. There. But sometimes children would rather entertain themselves and have something more hands on to entertain themselves with. Take some time with your child to develop a “Travel Pack” equipped with all necessities for any long outing. These packs can include some child-friendly snacks as well as a toy or two keep them entertained. While a stuffed animal of some sort will almost certainly make the cut, there are many toys offered today that can help kids learn and enjoy themselves. In today’s tech era, hand held video games like Gameboys and PSP’s, are grabbing the attention of young children and brain matter. Doesn’t matter where they are or what they are doing, these handheld contraptions are all the rage and they are not going away. However, for our younger generations there are educational video games now available to parents. It comes down to a “If you can’t beat them join them” kind of philosophy. Incorporating the educational fulfillments required to raise our children into this video era was brilliant. It most assuredly raised levels of gratitude for the parents of the world as well. Sometimes noise levels are a factor and travel toys have to have the “hush” factor built into them. This scenario is usually experienced up in the blue yonder. If you have traveled with your children on an airplane, then it’s a pretty safe assumption that looks of disapproval have been thrown your way due to the noise a child is making. Two phenomenal toys for airplane travel are the Wooden Magnetic Animal Habitat Set and the Magnetic Pattern Block Kit, by Melissa and Doug. The Animal Habitat Set includes 26 play pieces and 3 durable habitat cards featuring a farm, ocean, and the African Plains. The Pattern Block Kit includes a magnetic hand painted wooden board, 12 durable pattern cards and 120 magnetic wood shapes. You simply slide a pattern card into the wooden frame and match the pieces with the shapes in the pictures. What makes these two toys perfect in particular is that they both come in a sturdy carrying case with an easy zip back pocket for storage. Your children can be just like Mom or Dad with their own carry on brief case, filled with fun. No fuss, no mess, it all fits into one convenient place. How’s that for making everyone happy while flying the wild blue skies, as well as making that long drive more of a pleasurable experience for all. Have a nice trip!

Children are often enthralled with the idea of cooking, often at an early age. All of the toy kitchen utensils and foods that they love to play with serve to fuel this interest because of their uninhibited imaginations. There are lots of mini toy kitchens to be found, along with cute little plastic imitations of everything you’d find in a normal kitchen. You’ll see just about anything, from frying pans to kettles, and condiments to hamburgers. Pretending to cook is a great learning experience for little ones who enjoy the culinary arts in their mini kitchens. For more help go to www. cajuns-recipes. com . Nothing makes cooking more fun and fascinating than an Easy Bake oven. Girls (and boys) for several generations have been able to create all sorts of yummy treats in the comfort of their own rooms. Giving mom or dad a hand with dinner isn’t usually a chore for kids. Actually, cooking with the additional helpers can be very rewarding for the parent. There are lots of ways to let them help out, and if you’ve been baking, you can reward them by letting them lick the mixing bowl when you’re done. Lots of kids like to play around in the kitchen occasionally. Yet there are some who seem to have a natural affinity for cooking at a young age, well beyond the ability to sprinkle colored sugar on top of iced cookies. You can make cooking simple and fun for these future chefs. Frequently, they want to create an entire meal, not only the dessert. They might find that taking up cooking is even more enjoyable than playing computer games or watching TV. Why not have your child decide what’s for dinner that night, and help him along in the preparation. There are a lot of cookbooks and instructional videos available today that are targeted to kids, and they’re loaded with simple, fun recipes. Don’t be surprised if you find that many of these yummy recipes are actually quite good for you. For more help go to www. apples-recipes. com . It’s essential that you are very aware of what your kids are up to in the kitchen. A stable stepping stool is a better option than the kitchen chair if your little one wants to see what’s happening on the countertop. An adult needs to be in charge when dishes and pans are placed in the oven and when they’re removed, and also when anything’s being cooked on the stovetop. Be sure your kids learn that there is always the possibility of harmful accidents in the kitchen. They not only need to know safety procedures, they must be taught what to do when an accident causes injury. Always err on the side of caution when it comes to your kids’ safety in the kitchen.

One of the keys to the success of Tiger Woods as a golfer is that growing up his father knew the system of golf and generously guided him through it. Now, if you have children and are thinking of introducing them to golf, you must be asking yourself: Where should I start? Who should I call? Should I purchase junior clubs or get a used set of adult ones that have been cut down to size?Don’t get ahead of yourself! Relax!Golf is not a pursuit that you can simply sign your kid up for at any leisure club. However, this sport is become increasingly popular, and chances are that there are golf programs and clinics going on in your area. You may want to contact a local club pro, the YMCA, the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, the golf association in your area, and other civic organizations. If you are from the United States , the National Minority Junior Golf Foundation, the United States Golf Association, the Professional Golf Association, and the Ladies Professional Golf Association may also know how to help you. Some of these organizations are, in fact, specifically involved in programs to introduce kids to golf. Junior golf clinics are normally free to join; they are designed to introduce your child to the basics of golf, starting from how to grip a club, all the way to driving, chipping, and putting. Emphasis is placed on the rules of the game and golf etiquette. Clinics are also known to dole out golf apparel, balls, and sometimes golf clubs to participants. What is more, your child may be fortunate enough to receive instruction from a seasoned professional golfer in one of the clinics! The Black Enterprise/Pepsi Golf & Tennis Challenge junior clinic has featured Mark Nance, Kenny Simms, Todd Daniel and Maria Mills in the past. And their message is: Golf is for everyone. Of course before forcing your children into playing the sport, you should take pains finding out how they truly feel about golf. After your child has been introduced to the game, you must make it a point to go to the field and observe whether hitting a few balls on the driving range brings a smile to his face. Ask yourself if you think the sport seems to be challenging and enjoyable to your kid? If yes, the real fun has surely begun. To ensure that their kids learn the basics of golf properly, parents are usually advised to hook their children up with a golf instructor during the early stages of picking up the sport. If you’re having a hard time locating a good instructor, the local club pro should be able to provide you with a list of instructors in your area. If possible, watch a potential instructor with other students before signing up your kid. Observe whether or not the instructor gets along with the other kids, and ask yourself if he would fit in with your child’s personality. Proper instruction will surely increase your child’s confidence and decrease the frustration this mentally and physically challenging sport is sure to bring about. An instructor will also help you regarding the kind of equipment to buy for your child. Experts believe that a 7-iron, pitching wedge and a putter are all that is required for a beginner. At this point, you can hold off on the golf shoes and the designer clothes; tennis shoes and play clothes will normally suffice! One disadvantage to being a junior golfer is that there are usually problems regarding a shortage of facilities. To ensure enough practice (aside from the hours your child spends with an instructor) you might want to ask the club pro whether there are any slow times during the week that your child can slip on the course to play two to three holes. Additionally, if there are par 3 courses in your area, you should think about sending your kid there. Keep in mind that the more your kid plays, the more comfortable he/ she will be with the game. And, once your child has learnt the basics and is practicing regularly, the competitive juices will surely start to flow; that is when you should start inquiring about junior golf tournaments being held in your area. As you might have guessed, introducing your kids to golf is not as simple as it sounds. Children need guidance and motivation, and if your child really enjoys the sport, you should make sure you’re there to give him/ her that. Good luck!

Toys, like childhood itself, mean different things to different people. To the average European or American parent, a toy serves to keep the young amused and distracted. Now more than ever, with the belief that multiple intelligences can be stimulated in the early years, toy manufacturers are gearing their products towards those than can keep children beguiled, occupied and instructed. For instance, toys should help the child develop his motor skills, and engage him in fantasy and investigative play. For the child, an ornate piece that to adult eyes is essentially decorative and fixed, or a mechanized object kept as a curiosity can count as a plaything. As a result, experts have classified many objects as being on the borderline between toy and decorative object, between puerile replica and collector’s item. Such overlapping cannot be sidestepped nowadays, especially since toy collecting by adults in the United States and some European countries has emerged as a popular form of expertise. Despite such borderline cases, there is wide consensus among toy historians and collectors on what truly makes a toy, a toy in the strictest sense. Boys have played with foot soldiers and horse soldiers. Girls have always had their precious dolls. Although the earliest of these toys have not survived, these remain true and had been so since the third millennium B. C. The earliest known dolls were made of various materials such as wood, terra-cotta and fabric. The period after World War II brought novelties in design and an entire new range of plastics. Mechanical toys became popular as class alignments changed. This fact, coupled with more ingenious manufacturing techniques evolved into fantastic musical automata, animals, and images that utilized clockwork to mimic human movement. The aim for toy makers has been towards movement and the many different methods of inducing it in toys. It has assumed great importance and had become a subject dealt with fully in specialized reference works. Because of new production techniques, an overwhelming quantity of toys, games and amusements for children had been available by the mid 19th century. German inventiveness pioneered novel and intriguing designs, ranging from simple knickknacks in tin or the softwoods, which were known in Britain as “penny toys”, to constructional and educational games that reflected the growing vogue of science in the nursery. English girls during the reign of reign of Queen Victoria, began to follow the customs of their German and Austrian counterparts by learning about housecraft and baby care. By the turn of the 20th century, it was not unusual to find inexpensive dolls, dolls’ houses, and “German kitchens” in middle-class family homes. Today, the spread of modern production techniques has made additional millions of persons more conscious of toys in respect to their function, design and usefulness, and their many cultural aspects as well. And although refinements in the application of radio, electronics, magnetism, dry-cell batteries, and so on, have revolutionized certain toys, the folktoy has come into its own again in India, China, Central Europe, Japan, Mexico, Russia and Scandinavia, thus balancing mechanized trends with the addition of less complex technical artistry and beauty.
